Foothill Boulevard in the Inland Empire is the old historic Route 66. In Upland, Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana, Foothill Boulevard is the main drag where restaurants, cafes, diners and shops are located. These cities specially Rancho Cucamonga recognizes its special Route 66 heritage and supports the preservation of their remaining vintage road structures which is not always the case with the many cities and towns Route 66 traverses.

Pho Star in Upland is one of these restaurants. It is a new restaurant offering Vietnamese cuisine. It is a small family owned restaurant. Several restaurants have occupied the location in the past; nobody seems to last long. Before Pho Star, the location used to be occupied by a Salvadoran restaurant, a Chinese restaurant and a Greek restaurant.

Pho Star offers typical Vietnamese cuisine like pho (noodle soup), com tam (broken rice), and bun (vermicelli noodles). I ordered the bo bun which is a bowl of grilled slices of beef, vermicelli rice noodle, julienned carrots and lettuce and bean sprouts. You could tell the vegetables are of the very best quality; they are fresh and crunchy. The meat is tasty, tender, and juicy. The vermicelli rice noodles is well prepared, it is al dente and not soggy at all.

The dish came with a sauce made with fish sauce. It is savory and sweet which complemented the whole dish very well.

Bo Bun Vermicelli Noodle Bowl

The eatery is your typical family owned restaurant; the d├ęcor is not grade A but it is not shabby in fact it is very homey. Service is excellent with the crew very nice and helpful. Another good service that they have is the free Wi Fi.

Sauce for the Noodle

For a Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Star is excellent and recommended.

They are located at 1398 East Foothill Boulevard, Upland, CA.
